In the world of comic books, origin stories inform the reader of the identity and motivations of heroes and villains (thankfully, we only have the former here). Like Spider-Man or Captain America, your origin story is important as it defines who you are today. Learn about the experiences, people, and influences that shaped Concord's Paul Dunphy by reading below!

Where did you grow up?

A small town in northern Idaho.

Do you have a favorite family tradition?

Annual camping trips, complete with four-wheelers to drive around beaver dams.

Who’s someone who’s made a big impact on your life?

My maternal grandfather. He made every kid feel like they had his undivided attention, which meant so much growing up.

What’s one of your favorite places you’ve ever been?

Wandering the streets of Venice, finding unique little spots off the beaten tourist path.

Can you share an experience that helped shape who you are?

Being the oldest sibling in a large family helped me work through chaos and develop leadership skills.

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Braised short rib ragu sauce with three-cheese mac and cheese.

How did you end up in your current career?

I began with digital analytics implementations, having rebuilt the American Airlines website and app from scratch after the company’s merger. That led me to managing increasingly larger projects until I was overseeing entire portfolios of client projects.

What’s a hobby or activity you really enjoy?

I enjoy most outdoor activities, especially hiking and paddle boarding.

What was your first job, and what did it teach you?

I was a lot attendant at a Ford dealership. I learned how to influence a workplace where I didn’t have a title of authority but was still able to effect positive change in the processes I was involved in.

What’s something people are surprised to learn about you?

That I’m the oldest of 10 siblings and have 28+ nieces and nephews at this point.

What’s one piece of advice you’d give your younger self?

Stop trying to be a perfectionist. “Good enough” is okay for a first draft.
